Hi everyone I am Annmanda Olson, but my friends and family call me Annie. I
have been married for 8 years and have four cute kids; Angellica, Gohaun, Miaka, Jiraiya.
You may ask were I got the names for my kids? We like Japaneses cultural and
shows so much we had our wedding based off a show call "Inyasha." So when it
came to naming our kids we went to our favorite shows, pick a name from one of
our favorite characters. My husband pick Gohaun from the show "Dragon Ball Z," I
picked Miaka from the show "Fushigi Yuugi," and we both picked Jiraiya from the
show "Naruto." All real good shows to watch if you have a few hours. :)
As for what I am doing now in life. I have just finished getting my BS in
Mathematics with a minor in Accounting from Boise State University. Did I all
was love math? No, if fact it was just something I could do easily it was not
until I got into Mrs. White's Algebra class did I start to love it. In her class
we played board games to help us understand the ideas of algebra, this made it
fun. But I still did not want to in a math field, I was more into being a HAZMAT
person. That changed during high school Biology class. So, after high school I
thought oh I take a break from school for one year since HAZMAT no longer held
my attention and I needed a goal to go after in college.
Wham, life happened. After being marred for 3 years I decided it was time to
go back to school. But I still did not know what I wanted to do. Therefore I sat
down and thought about what things during high school might I love to do. I have
always loved teaching people new things, so I thought lets be a teacher.
Therefore I started my college life with the idea of being a teacher.
I enrolled in an online college stayed there for 3 years before I learned
that the degree they were pushing me to was social studies teacher, thus mainly
getting my core class out of the way. I dropped out of it and joined Boise State
for their spring semester 2011. I was going after being a teacher tell I was a
tutor at AVID and had trouble with the praxis writing exam I. At AVID I learned
I was not able to handle the middle school students so thought I have to do
ether high school or college level students. My trouble with the praxis writing
exam comes from my
dyslexia and the poor grammar skills
I grained from not learning about my dyslexia tell the 5th grade and
losing the confidence to do it right. My scores where not that bad, as I only
missed passing by one point each time I took it, but that one point is what
makes it hard to be a teacher.
These two factors made me think
maybe I like to do something else. So when I was offered to be a Research
Assistant for Mary Smith, Ph D. as my senior project I took it. The project is
to see if there can be a different way to teach Calculus I, by teaching problem
solving skills along side the subject. The idea is that if the students had
problem solving skills they be able understand the subject better and get to the
right answer. I also took Probability and Statistics and loving looking at the
things that can be done with any topic in terms of Math and analysis.
First I though a Financial Account/managers field would let me
play with numbers, do research for clients and do data analysis. So I looked
into those fields and had some promise at New York Life. However I have to much
medical debt (because I have not had the money to pay those bills with making
less then 25k a year for the last 5 years and less then 18k a year 3 years
before that with my family size). I learned that with debt the financial account/managers field is
pretty much closed because they like their employees to have a good handle on
their own finances. I understand this fact and decided to look at an other field
that I could work with data analysis and research.
So looking at my opinions and doing some internet research on
fields that let me do what I will like I came up with working in Data Analysis and/or Research more on the company side and less on the
science side. This might also be called Market
Research.
