Nissan Leaf

So my husband told me to find a new car I would want to replace my Saturn SL1. We had already decided to get our first band new car when I get my next pay raise which I got this paycheck. First I wanted a Dodge Journey since it 7 passenger. However, he told me to look for a car for me to drive to work, some sort of compact. Unsure now what I wanted I was playing Sim City and had just built Nissan Power Stations and was seeing these new cars on the roads in the game.

On to researching the Nissan Leaf a 100% electric cars. These cars seat 5 people and have 4 doors. I started talking to my husband about this car and below is the questions he asked me to find out.

1) On average how many miles can you drive on a single charge?
(Answer) Between 86 and 100 miles depending on grade of the road. If you drive up a             mountain you use more battery than normal, and driving down hills are recharge the battery a little.

2) How many years does the battery live?
(Answer) The car comes with a 8 year or 100,000 miles battery warranty, and you can buy an  extra extended service Security+Plus that gives you the peace of mind that benefit from Nationwide Coverage, Genuine Nissan Parts, Factory-Trained Technicians, and you’ll be protected against future inflation.

3) What is the cost to set up a charging station at your home?
(Answer) The home station if installed by your self would cost $999. To have the companies certified installer would cost $1,999 and these cost can be added to your cost of purchase.

4) If we do our normal trips would we be able to charge on the way?
(Answer) We drive from Nampa to Salt Lake UT about once every 2-4 years. There is 9 charge
station in Nampa - Boise area but tell you get to Utah there is no other station on Interstate 84. Thus this car wouldn't be able to make it to UT. IN fact if we drive anywhere outside 100 mile range of Boise there is no Charging stations. Thus taking this car out of the state would be impossible.

5) If we ran out of charge and no station is around is there any way to change out the battery, or get it some extra charge to make it to a station.
(Answer) Letting your car coast will recharge the batteries a little so if you starting to get low and have a downward road ahead, coast down it and get some extra distance to drive.

6) How much would it raise our power bill charging it every night?
(Answer) Drivers in CA and OR have reported about an increase of $1/day for charging their cars. In Idaho we are cheaper on the power side of living but I stick to the $1/day. That means in a month if cost us about $30

7) What speeds can it get to with a problem?
        (Answer) 70 MPH no problem

8) How much horsepower does it have?
(Answer) It has 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque.

We are still unsure if we going to buy one, I think first on the list would be to test drive it for a day to see if it would work for my daily commute.

Tallest People

So my oldest son tells me that his dad is the tallest person ever, so not true my husband is 5ft 10in. However my boy doesn't believe me, so first I look up the World Record for the Tallest Man EVER!!!. This turns out to be a Robert Pershing Wadlow from the USA who when last measured on 27 June 1940 to be 8 ft 11.1 in tall.

Show the information to my son, and he says "Mom he don't count, he died." Okay I give him credit the is true. So I look up the Tallest Man alive to find Sultan Kösen from Turkey who measured 8 ft 3 in during 2011. However he can't picture how tall that is.

Going to my husband tool bag I grab a tape measure and move things around in the living room so I can get 9 ft for tape measure to out layout on the floor. Then I go the blue painters tape and had my son lay out on the ground, feet at the bottom of the tape measure, and then marked his height. Then I marked my husband height at a guess (since he was not home) and marked Sultan Kosen height.

He was so shocked, he wanted to see pictures of the guy. Therefor back to the computer, and one google search later I had a bunch of pictures. Now he asks me every week to look of some new fact for him, like how to say chocolate toilet in ASL.

MORE ABOUT ME

Hi everyone I am Annmanda Olson, but my friends and family call me Annie. I have been married for 8 years and have four cute kids; Angellica, Gohaun, Miaka, Jiraiya. You may ask were I got the names for my kids? We like Japaneses cultural and shows so much we had our wedding based off  a show call "Inyasha." So when it came to naming our kids we went to our favorite shows, pick a name from one of our favorite characters. My husband pick Gohaun from the show "Dragon Ball Z," I picked Miaka from the show "Fushigi Yuugi," and we both picked Jiraiya from the show "Naruto." All real good shows to watch if you have a few hours. :)

As for what I am doing now in life. I have just finished getting my BS in Mathematics with a minor in Accounting from Boise State University. Did I all was love math? No, if fact it was just something I could do easily it was not until I got into Mrs. White's Algebra class did I start to love it. In her class we played board games to help us understand the ideas of algebra, this made it fun. But I still did not want to in a math field, I was more into being a HAZMAT person. That changed during high school Biology class. So, after high school I thought oh I take a break from school for one year since HAZMAT no longer held my attention and I needed a goal to go after in college.

Wham, life happened. After being marred for 3 years I decided it was time to go back to school. But I still did not know what I wanted to do. Therefore I sat down and thought about what things during high school might I love to do. I have always loved teaching people new things, so I thought lets be a teacher. Therefore I started my college life with the idea of being a teacher.

I enrolled in an online college stayed there for 3 years before I learned that the degree they were pushing me to was social studies teacher, thus mainly getting my core class out of the way. I dropped out of it and joined Boise State for their spring semester 2011. I was going after being a teacher tell I was a tutor at AVID and had trouble with the praxis writing exam I. At AVID I learned I was not able to handle the middle school students so thought I have to do ether high school or college level students. My trouble with the praxis writing exam comes from my dyslexia and the poor grammar skills I grained from not learning about my dyslexia tell the 5th grade and losing the confidence to do it right. My scores where not that bad, as I only missed passing by one point each time I took it, but that one point is what makes it hard to be a teacher.

These two factors made me think maybe I like to do something else. So when I was offered to be a Research Assistant for Mary Smith, Ph D. as my senior project I took it. The project is to see if there can be a different way to teach Calculus I, by teaching problem solving skills along side the subject. The idea is that if the students had problem solving skills they be able understand the subject better and get to the right answer. I also took Probability and Statistics and loving looking at the things that can be done with any topic in terms of Math and analysis.

First I though a Financial Account/managers field would let me play with numbers, do research for clients and  do data analysis. So I looked into those fields and had some promise at New York Life. However I have to much medical debt (because I have not had the money to pay those bills with making less then 25k a year for the last 5 years and less then 18k a year 3 years before that with my family size). I learned that with debt the financial account/managers field is pretty much closed because they like their employees to have a good handle on their own finances. I understand this fact and decided to look at an other field that I could work with data analysis and research.

So looking at my opinions and doing some internet research on fields that let me do what I will like I came up with working in Data Analysis and/or Research more on the company side and less on the science side. This might also be called Market Research.
